Men who have diabetes have a greatly increased chance of also developing erection problems earlier than men who do not have diabetes.
Various studies show men 35 to 75 per cent of men with diabetes also develop erectile dysfunction, and find they have erection problems 10 to 15 years earlier than non- diabetics.
Physical Links Between Diabetes and ED
This is because the metabolic changes that accompany diabetes are also the same things that affect the ability to get good erections including:
- High blood sugar causing blood vessel and nerve damage
- High cholesterol because of fatty deposits in artery walls
- Reduction of nitric oxide levels in blood stream – necessary for getting an erection
- Low testosterone
- Tiredness, fatigue, stress leading to reduced emotional health
